Barkdar

Created for an installation at the July 2012 Monsoon Collective exhibition at the Sattya Media Center, Kathmandu.

BARKDAR is a new surveillance technology. It monitors a threat that has been severely under-recognized by the international intelligence community.

The installation uses a free-software neural network package and a multichannel microphone to determine and visualize the locations of nearby dogs based on the sounds of their barks. (Kathmandu has a LOT of stray dogs.) Something about internet culture and/or the absurdity of the surveillance state.
